Fees
I know many people are reluctant to ask about money, payment terms, deposits, progress payments, late fees, and the simple thought of uttering the words “How much do you charge?” makes some people drip with fear, so to combat this grey area and to maintain a transparent attitude to the Aussie dollar in my business I wrote this page explaining how The Profit Maximising Web Geek deals with money.
How Much Do You Charge?
Getting straight into it aren’t we? OK, let get this sorted. I cannot simply spit out an hourly rate or a set of fixed project fees, because every project or task is different. I know that isn’t the answer you were looking for but hear me out…
Your business might need a website, but what type?
- Perhaps a lead generating squeeze page site built that you already have content written …or
- A shopping cart built for 3500 products , but don’t yet have photos or descriptions …or maybe
- A fully interactive arcade game developed to promote a new product to Siberian dog lovers
As you can see the websites described above are very very different from each other. There are too many differences to give a fixed ‘off the shelf price’ for a ‘website’
A website is not a loaf of white bread.
What I can tell you is that all web site design and development activities are billed by the “project” and that a project fee will be given to you after we discuss, define and agree on all the bits and pieces that will go in to creating your website. (You never pay for this initial discussion, no matter how long it takes for us to set out your goals and the steps we need to take to get there!)
You will never be stung with any nasty surprises, I really hate being surprised by hidden fees so I promise to share with you all fees and charges up front, BEFORE we begin! – I have found that this ‘upfront process’ keeps everyone informed and pretty happy.
How Do I Pay?
Once we have defined and agreed on the work that will be completed as part of your project, which of us is responsible for which tasks and the total investment involved a deposit is required before work can begin, this investment can be paid via cash, cheque, direct bank deposit or once off credit card transaction.
- For projects valued under $1,000 : 100% deposit is required.
- For those projects between $1,000 and $10,000 : 50% deposit is required, followed by a 25% progress payment and settlement of the remaining 25%
- For projects over $10,000 : 40% deposit, 30% progress payment and settlement of remaining 30%
For recurring fees, such as ongoing web site maintenance plans, web site statistics reporting, or web site and email hosting, monthly pre-payment is required via a regular credit card transaction.
